The Director of Construction will be responsible for the all the strategic planning/management and tactical execution of various construction projects and special projects for UniFirst across the organization up to $50 million dollars in projects. This key individual will ensure on-time completion, budget cost control, quality of work, and successful vendor management. This position will help to execute and deploy market-leading innovations in the uniform rental and laundry services. The Director of Construction will oversee a team of Construction Project Engineers.

Responsibilities:

  • Strategic planning and delivery of various concurrent projects such as new construction, additions, renovations, emergency repair, and other facility related projects as well as overall leadership to capital program management programs
  • Manage the relationships and communication channels between engineering, outside consultants, architects, city officials, and location operation management
  • Provide direction to general contractors, subcontractors, and vendors when doing groundwork to ensure that quality standards are being met
  • Visit sites regularly during construction — including bid walks, preconstruction walks, in-progress visits, and closeouts — and attend status and coordination meetings
  • Oversee general plant layout and equipment layout and coordinate plant production design with engineering departments
  • Review project plans design, specifications, and plan while scheduling changes, and recommending actions
  • Maintain project schedule by monitoring project progress, coordinating activities, closeout processes and resolving problems to ensure all deadlines are being met
  • Act as the point of escalation and primary contact for construction projects and respond efficiently and effectively to work delays, emergencies, and other project disruptions
  • Ensure completion of punch list items, review and authorize contractor payments and submit them for processing. Provide completion status, cost of projects, and financial reports thought the project management platform

Qualifications

Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in the area of specialty: Industrial, Mechanical, Electrical or Civil Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or closely related field
  • Minimum of 10 years working in a related business environment with experience in laundry and/or manufacturing highly preferred
  • Travel up to 70% of the time (Nationwide) minimum 50%
  • Demonstrated knowledge of preparing construction budgets and tracking to actual costs
  • Demonstrated knowledge of manufacturing or laundry operations
  • Excellent collaboration skills and demonstrated ability to work efficiently with a team
  • Ability to communicate with leadership, team members and consultants
  • Proficient in AutoCAD (3D Rendering program or other design software helpful)
  • Ability to identify and resolve complex issues, manage multiple tasks and provide quality work
  • Knowledge of construction methods and technologies and an ability to interpret technical drawings and contracts
  • Knowledge of building-code requirements and construction worksite safety practices
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects simultaneously with an eye for quality, under deadlines to 100% completion
  • Computer Skills: proficiency using MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Project
  • Demonstrate a high level of personal responsibility and make sound decisions. Act in a manner of integrity that shows usspport the company, its values, culture and mission.
