Sr. Fleet Safety Specialist

2406133The primary focus of a Sr. Fleet Safety Specialist is driver safety and compliance; you will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies and programs to ensure compliance and the safe operation of our fleet of vehicles. You will oversee driver training, conduct accident investigations, develop corrective action plans and promote a culture of safety within the organization. Additionally, you will play a vital role in maintaining facility safety standards in accordance with OSHA, other regulatory guidelines, and industry best practices.
Driver Safety:
- Develop and implement driver safety training programs to ensure compliance with safety regulations and best practices.
- Conduct regular driver safety training sessions, including defensive driving techniques and hazard recognition.
- Monitor and evaluate driver performance, identify areas for improvement and provide coaching as necessary.
Accident Investigations:
- Lead accident investigations to determine root causes and contributing factors.
- Develop and implement corrective actions to prevent future accidents.
- Maintain detailed accident records and report findings to management and relevant authorities as required.
Policy Development:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to create and update driver safety and compliance policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to driver safety.
Safety Audits and Inspections:
- Perform regular safety audits and inspections of company vehicles and driving practices.
- Identify potential hazards and recommend improvements to enhance driver safety.
Data Analysis and Reporting:
- Collect and analyze data related to driver safety performance, accident and injury claims and other related data.
- Prepare reports and presentations for management, highlighting trends and areas for improvement.
Safety Communication:
- Develop and implement communication strategies to promote driver safety awareness among employees.
- Conduct safety meetings and workshops to foster a culture of safety.
Collaboration and Training:
- Collaborate with other departments to integrate safety measures into company processes.
- Provide guidance and training to drivers and other employees on safety best practices.
- Ensure drivers are trained in pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, defensive driving, and other areas of safety and compliance.
Facility Safety:
- Assist in developing and maintaining facility safety policies and procedures in accordance with OSHA, other regulatory guidelines, and industry best practices.
- Conduct safety inspections, job safety analysis and audits of facilities to identify hazards and areas of improvement.
- Collaborate with facility managers to address safety concerns and implement corrective measures.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records related to driver safety, accident investigations, and facility safety measures.
- Generate reports and metrics to track safety performance and present findings to management.
Safety Culture Promotion:
- Promote a culture of safety awareness and accountability throughout the organization.
- Organize safety awareness campaigns and initiatives to engage employees in safety-related activities.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in driver safety management, accident investigation, DOT and OSHA compliance.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA and DOT regulations and standards.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong training and executive acumen
- Detail-oriented with the ability to analyze data and make data-driven decisions.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Safety Professional, Certified Driver Trainer) are a plus.
- Familiarity with safety management systems, telematics and software tools
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
- Three (3) years of specified experience may be substituted for required degree.
Travel Requirements:
- Must be available for traveling up to 75% a year.
