The Safety and Health Coordinator will be responsible for the overall development, implementation and maintenance of the Distribution Center’s Safety and Health Program and Management Systems. The Distribution Center’s programs were created to exceed basic compliance of health and safety regulations. The coordinator will assess and anticipate safety related needs, and communicate needs proactively with HR Manager, General Manager, and/or Supervisors. The Health and Safety Coordinator is expected to work closely with managers, supervisors, and employees to improve the overall safety and health of our facility and our team partners to administer OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Program at the Distribution Center.

  • Design, manage and update programs to improve and/or maintain safe working conditions.
  • Ensures the health and safety of all employees, visitors and contractors through the adherence to all applicable standards, policies and procedures.
  • Regularly conduct organized safety inspections throughout the facility.
  • Investigate potential hazards and review incident and near miss investigations. Determine root cause and implement engineering or administrative controls.
  • Take an active role in accident investigations and injury management by thoroughly reviewing the accident reports, using investigation techniques, following injury management guidelines, etc.
  • Process accident reports
  • Collect and analyze injury data to identify trends as well as make recommendations for improvement.
  • Responsible for all reporting of safety requirements for internal and external sources. Ensure compliance with all applicable governing agencies (e.g. KY OSHA).
  • In conjunction with all appropriate personnel, review and approve all process and equipment plans as well as any revisions. Assess risk with personnel and evaluate the effectiveness regarding the safe working environment.
  • Communicate technical information across the organization. This includes administering the training schedule for annual safety and compliance training.
  • Collaborate with all department management to help eliminate hazards throughout the Distribution Center.

  • Bachelor’s in Occupational Safety or a related field and/or significant safety experience
  • 3+ years related experience
  • Experience with OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) is preferred
  • Professional safety certification, or willing to obtain within 12 months
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Must have the ability to plan and coordinate work in a sufficient and organized manner
  • Must have the ability to exercise considerable judgment and discretion in establishing and maintaining good working relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with labor, management and outside consultants and governmental entities
  • Strong project management skills 
  • Must be able to take initiative and organize workload with little or no direction
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
